Find the right shoe size for your child

Guide til skostørrelse, skostørrelser til børn

Once your child has taken their first steps, it’s as if the whole world needs to be explored with an almost endless energy expenditure.
It can be a big strain on the small growing feet to be in constant motion, and therefore it’s important that the shoes fit properly so your child can discover the world without discomfort.

We have compiled an overview of which shoe sizes typically fit depending on the child’s age. Remember, this guide is only indicative and all feet can be different.

On average, a child's foot goes through growth ‘spurts’

  • Approximately 2 cm per year when the child is 0-2 years old. This corresponds to almost half a shoe size every two months.
  • Approximately 1½ cm per year when the child is 2-6 years old – almost half a shoe size every three months.
  • Approximately 1 cm per year when the child is 6-13 years old.

The rate of growth changes over time, affecting how often your child will need new shoes. And here we are naturally only talking about size.

If you need to measure your child’s foot, they should stand up to get the full length. After measuring your child’s foot, you can consider adding a growth allowance. As a general rule of thumb, you can add 1-1.5 cm as a growth allowance. This ensures there is room for movement in the shoes and a bit of space as the foot grows.
